HYPERTECH POWER CHIP
I have a stock 1986 automatic. I was thinking of putting in a Hypertech Street Runner Power Chip to add more horsepower. Is this a good idea? Will I create any problems by doing this? Has anyone used the Hypertech Chip?
Thanks Jerry

Re: HYPERTECH POWER CHIP (Jerry D)
There was one in my '87 manual. Didn't seem to make a difference. They timing is way advanced so you'll want to run premium if you don't now.

I don't want to do any major mods that can't be undone if I sell it someday.
If it doesn't add much horsepower I'll skip it. Thanks

You can gain some free hp by installing cut back plugs, details on there too.
If you can pick up that chip for like $50 on e-bay it will bring your main fan on around a 160deg stat, which is again worth some hp.
The above mods will add about 15-20chp and are all easily reversable.

If your stock, its a waste of money, if you just want to up-tune your stock , get jesse (ski down it from CF) to program a chip and tune the stock side..
