Is the copper color area normal? I thought all of it would be covered with carbon. One guy told me that that is evidence of coolant leaking in. Anyone else?
Re: Pulled heads - does this look normal? (ericcer)
Looks fine to me. The mixture was'right on' an compression good to promote an even burn of all cyc. BTW how manny miles? Are ya doing an extensive mod. Keep us posted.

Looks like you've been burning some oil. As far as the copper color, I'm a little confused as to where that came from. They're not iron heads, so it's not rust. I've never seen coolant do that with that color before...besides, usually if you're burning coolant, the plugs and chambers look steamcleaned.

Well then it must have been running rich. The Dexcool could do that, though I've never torn down a motor with Dexcool in it. I *do* know that Dexcool does some funky things.

The lighting isn't the best, or the exposure is a little fast to see the combustion cambers. The "copper" color in the quench area of all the cylinders, don't look like a problem, either. What catches MY eye is the brassy-green area in the top photo, right side, between the water transfer port and the intake ports. THAT looks like a head gasket leak, to me. Otherwise, as best as can be seen, the chambers DO look pretty dark. I can't tell if it is from running rich or oil burning. Good luck, and...

Looks fine but I would check heads for cracks or pitting, especially the gasket sealing area of the heads next to the outer bolt holes.
The copper color comes from excessive amounts of fuel system additives such as techroline from exxon; fuel injector cleaners or from octane boosters. (well, octane boosters normally leave things purple.)
