Default Ceramic Header Coatings - Your Opinion Needed!!

I'm going to get my new headers ceramic coated for longevity and to reduce underhood temps.

What company should I go with?

Anybody have any good/bad experiences to share on the topic?

Jet Hot and HPC seem to be the major players. Am I missing anybody important?

Thanks!

I did'nt vote, but allot of us are in a header group purchase with the HPC coating. They are due to be shipped in the 1st or 2nd week of Feb. so after they are recived we'll know more. I've heard good things about HPC and then there's the Lifetime Warranty. :seeya

Edit: Make sure you get them coated inside and out

Swain tech.
The other coatings just look good. Swain tech coatings are much thicker. And that reduce's underhood temps.

I have not seen HPC, but I have seen Jet Hot - I just recently received my TPIS headers & Y pipe that were coated inside & out, they did a beautiful job. I am anticipating a significant decrease in heat in the engine compartment and under car.
The original TPIS ceramic coating turned dull after 2 months.

Warranty for new items is lifetime - used items is 3 years.

Car should be running after rebuild by end of month and I will know if the Y pipe was worth coating.

Just be sure to go with a quality coating.

My only experience is with the coating on the Edelbrock headers in the IROC; I believe it is HPC.

They were installed in '97 and looked fine till last spring when I noticed some poc marking on the tubes.

I can only speak about Jet-Hot as that's the only company I've used. Others are probably just fine, too. I bought my Hookers from Jet-Hot and had the Sterling Coating put on and they look great to me. I've had them on for just about a year and they still look new. My son also has a set of headers on his Blazer and with the Jet-Hot coating, they still look new. :flag

Will these companies also strip and re-coat a set?

ID85,
Jet Hot does - I sent my headers & Y pipe for coating - they stripped & recoated inside & out.

If you go w/ JetHot, speak to Todd. There is a forum discount thru him.
I've only used JetHot. No complaints.

HPC does as well....I didn't have my Y-pipe coated at all, however the headers were stripped and recoated - inside as well as outside. The job was phenomenal, and HPC's gaurantee is superior to Jet-Hot. Call Matt Holm at HPC, tel: 800-456-4721, link: http://www.hpcoatings.com/

I guarantee you'll be blown away by the results. Hooker makes a nice header, but they outsource the coating process to some klown outfit Mexico that still doesn't seem to catch on. I'm one to take zero chances if I can. Might be kinky, but why not do the job right and re-coat the outside - the right way -while they coat the inside.

Exceptionally pleased with Jet Hot. Their Sterling Coating looks exceptional, and is guaranteed for life. Excellent customer service as well. I went with them because of their reputation established in their military applications. I have seen their work on Jet Blast Deflectors. These are huge panels that pop up behind jets that are being launched from aircraft carriers. This keeps the thrust from blowing sailors off the deck, as well as prevents them from bursting into little screaming alpha fires!! those deflectors are used 24/7, with no chipping or peeling. That sold me for sure.

If HPC, they charge $185-$225, depending on the headers. For long tubes, its on the higher end.

Re: Jet Hot Coating's life time guarentee: it's only for a single recoat.

I had a set of cat replacement tubes coated by Jet Hot. The pipes are 409 stainless and they were brand new. The original coating didn't last one Chicago winter. Jet Hot recoated them free of charge (I paid shipping to Jet Hot). Within a few weeks ther coating was peeling again. I have a set of headers I bought used from a waxer, they were Jet Hot coated, started peeling in the first winter I had them.

Jet Hot hasn't worked out very well for me. I'd try anyone else but them. Nobody could be worse.

Thats very unfortunate :( Jet-Hot uses generic chemicals purchased bulk from outside sources; HPC has developed their own and produces them in-house.

How can you back up this statement? Without proof you are starting another rumor associated with a well known company.

We all know that problems can occur with quality products. I had a problem with AFR and if I made a statement like this I would have been jumped all over.

Bradvette,
Your statement is FALSE!! I emailed Jet Hot referenceing your statement and received the following email.

We do not buy the coating from anyone
and we do not sell our coating to anyone. We do use high grade material
to insure the best quality and delivers the highest shine in the market
today. I can't speak for HPC, but I do know many other coating companies
purchase the coating just to apply it. We get a lot of calls daily from
customer who have used other coated (including HPC) that were very
dissatisfied with the coating. The coating would fail in many different
was such as rusting, peeling, discoloration, etc. Please let me assure
you, Jet Hot does produce the best metallic ceramic coating on the
market today. We work with many manufactures for this reason (example:
SLP, Dynatech, Factory five, and many more). If you have any questions,
please feel free to call or email.

This is to set the record straight on Jet Hot coatings.

I notice they don't say anything about the durability of the coating. I'd give up a little shine to have the coating last more than a few weeks :mad
