During the 1986 production year, the 128 or 129 (not sure of the number) aluminum heads were phased in. Prior to that all the heads were the 624 cast iron heads. The 128 (?) heads have a conventional Chevy "square" exhaust port. The 113's have the "D" shaped exhaust port. Besides the easily recognized exhaust port, the 113 heads breathe better, both intake and exhaust. 1992 and up are LT engines. That covers the C4s. Good luck, and...

The aluminum 128 head started in mid 86, and continued thru 87. They then made some small changes in design and changed the exhaust port for the 113 head in 88. Its a very light head, weight wise, and flows well enough for most moderate small-block combinations. When you start pushing things over 400hp, they can choke you, if ported. Unported theyre supposed to be good until you get around 350hp.
