I just finished installation of new 3.54 gears in my DANA36.
What I noticed was gear noise when rotating the pinion in the load direction; rotating in the coast direction is very quiet.
Before I go on installing the rear end in my vette, I would like to know if this is normal.
Pinion preload is okay, backlash is at minimum and the pattern of the drive side is not as good as the coast side, but still okay.
I know there are not too many people out there installing gears themselves, but hopefully someone can help.
Thanks
Arnold
I can't help you with your question, but after looking at the mods in your profile, I just wanted to wish you the best of luck with that D36 :blueangel:
Frank,
I'm not interested so much what the pattern looks like, but in the noise when turning the pinion in the drive direction!!
But if the pattern if not right the rear will be noisey. I've never noticed a noise by just turning it over by hand. Only when driving, but if set up to specs and a good pattern there should be no noise while driving.
