Jeff,
1500-1900 bucks isnt unrealstic when you pay someone to change them out.
I was quoted 1500 8 years ago but of course I did it myself.Just wanted to see what the costs was.
One bosch injector can run as high as 120 each.Your best bet is go to an aftermarket injector and save alot more money.
Tomco Injectors are a nice stock replacement and they run about 50-60 bucks each..You can also have your injectors sent out for rebuilding unless theyre so shot they cant be fixed?
Ive also seen other people here post saying they paid about 240 or so for a set of 8 injectors from someone, but cant remember where.
Maybe it was summit racing or jegs and im not sure of the brand.
Anyways,if youre going to pay a mechanic, see if he will let you buy your own injectors to keep the cost down. Not all of them do that though. If he buys them, youre gonna pay alot of money for a pretty simple injector swap out.
One more thing, has he done a fuel pressure test and tried to change the filter yet?I just realized your blaming it on bad gas.Id start there first.
Did he do a injector resistance test?If not, then how would he even know they were bad?
:)
Yes, he has spent a lot of time doing the diagnostics, changing all of the fuel filters, etc. we tried the simple stuff like putting Techron cleaner and I ran it for 150 miles, and really no change.
If you can do it yourself you can get 8 Ford Motor Sport injectors for about $220 through Summit. Accel injectors are about the same price, but a lot of people have complained about them. If you don't want to do the install at least you can save on parts.
Just got some used ones on ebay and set to witchhunter.com for servicing, complete test and doc.... complete under $150.00 for injectors and tune and cleaning...
IMHO :lolg: You're crazy if you spend that much on injectors.
First, they are easy as hell to replace.
Second, Rich at Cruzinperformance will R&R your current, factory injectors for roughly $11.00 a piece. He'll test them, and if possible (assuming they aren't too out of whack) he'll blueprint and repair them. Then, he'll send them back to you with a link to the test results. He can get them to within 1% of each other.
Truly, replacing the injectors is a couple hour job, tops, once you know what you're doing. And it's a hell of a lot cheaper.
When he told me $1900, I almost lost it on him. Five-O has the ones that I need (just need to verify that I don't need the lucas injectors) for $400.00
Now i'm not a rocket scientist, but I used to build challengers and chargers 340 motors like they were nothing, so I think I can hanlde the injectors.
Can someone lead me through the process of what has to come off (fuel rail, plenumm etc) and what special tools if any are needed.
I usually have a full set of tools at my ready, nut seeing how getting divorced I can't get inito the house to get anything.
My fuel injectors were dirty and led to flooding and stalling.

My mechanic cleaned them; That is: He hooked up a machine to the fuel intake that fed cleaning chemicals instead of gas.
He rerouted the fuel line back into the fuel tank. He ran the car with the cleaning chemical for half hour.
I never had a problem after that.
I was told he did that as part of a "Fuel Injector Service" and to be honest he says it's a little better but not much.
I starting to feel as If I'm getting scammed. The car was running fine until like an idiot, I put in a bad load of gas, and within a day or so, it started running like sh^t.
Brought it to him, and he said I need a tume up, and it appears as if some of the cylinders are running lean, but lets see.
After a complete tune-up $350+, the issues were still there, so he did the Fuel Injector Service, and said it's a bit better, but none of the injectors are up to specs ( a preasure or leakage testm he performed, not sure), so then he give me a price of 1900 for the injectors from AC Delco. The injectors are Bosch or Lucas, not sure.
Several of the forum members gave me a few places to try to get 3rd part injectors. I found several places that have good prices, for rebuilt units, or they I can buy new Borg Warner units for 70 a piece.
So atleast thank to this forum, and everyone's help, I know I have alternatives.
Bit now I'm wondering what the issue is. He changed the fuel filters during the tune up and told me they were totally clogged.
It just does not make sense to me, that one bad tank of gas can cause almost 2000 worth of damage.
I can see your mechanic changing the fuel filter and cleaning the injectors, but needing a tune-up has no direct relationship to a 'bad' tank of gas. Needing a tune-up is a gradual thing, you feel it coming on.
On the upside: when you get this problem solved, your car will be freshly tuned.
I will add [And I don't think this is your problem, but] My vette was lacking power and spongy acceloration. My mechanic said the catalytic converter is partially blocked, I had him change it--Solved the problem.
The point is- you never know.
