I just replaced my original heater core 3 weeks ago. Now the replacement has sprung a HUGE leak. Got a low coolant light this morning when I started the car, checked radiator, it was half empty. Topped it up and went to work. Didn't get a low coolant light on the way home, because it sucked 3/4 of the water out of the reservior on the way home. :mad Lifetime warranty my a** :mad
Hey John, I struggled with that one to. I finally decided I would spend the little extra and I ordered a new Delco without the lifetime warranty. There was just something odd about it being almost half the price as the delco.
Anyway, you are for sure it is leaking, is your carpet getting wet? What about the 2 hoses that connects to it outside at the firewall? I know when I changed mine, I remembered thinking, that would be a perfect place for coolant to spray back in through the heater core inlet/outlet holes and make it look like it was the heater core.
....but at least you can put it down on your resume again :D
I did the last swap at work and I'll do this next one there as well. My boss came back when I was about 1/2 way through, took a look at everything that had come out, whistled, turned around and left, lol. He was amazed that it only took me 6 hours.
I just wish they hadn't started the c4 assembly line with a guy hanging the heater core on a wire and moving it too station #2. At least it's not the radiator leaking, or a headgasket, or tranny cooler failure.
It's that Texas air man.........I'm tellin' ya, stuff like this didn't start happening till you moved. That's when you lost that headlite cover, right? Personally, I think you moved too close to Vettenoob
Picked up a new AC/Delco unit through my work today for less than jobber cost! Didn't even think to ask about it when I was getting ready to do the last one

Re: Damned heater core! (JCAIRE2)
Over and over I read horror stories about removing the heater core. You guys are scaring me. If I ever need to have this done I think I will leave it for the pros. Would you fellas say this is no job for mechanically challenged owners? Rate yourself on a 1 to 10 scale and rate this job as well.
My core blew the other day too! Lucky it is still summer here. I am going to leave it till winter time so I can take my time and do a dozen other jobs under the dash at the same time.

Re: Damned heater core! (JCAIRE2)
I pressure tested the leaky heater core and the solder joint for one of the pipes had let go completely.
JCAIRE2, How would you describe the broken solder joint? I'm asking because replacing the core is my next big challenge. I have purchased an aftermarket core and will definately have the core pressure tested prior to installation.
