(88 C4 TPI) My engine is using oil on a fresh rebuild. Exhaust is soaked. Oil is coming up through the EGR system. We used the old pistons, hoaned and re-ringed. I resealed the intake, did not help. I dont show any blow-by, PCV system is clean as a pin. I have the engine scattered now and the pistons dont show to be leaking by, and the bore is not too far out. How's it getting in there? If not the intake or rings....Head gaskets look to be sealing well. I'm lost at the moment. We are going to bore and install new pistons but I am sceptical...

If there is oil, not carbon, getting into the EGR system there must be an oil leak into the intake base, right.

What about the heads. Did you look at the valve seals? Just a thought...

i have seen this problem before on the forum. they said it was so bad it was running out of the throttle body, but all i can remember is that it had to do with the egr system. i just can not remember the exact part that was bad.
it could still be a blowby problem though.

:iagree: I'd be looking real hard at that intake. Maybe you can pick up a spare and try it instead.

Honed and re-ringed with the original pistons?

You probably have pistons fitting too loose to seal. Have you mic'd the bore and the pistons? If so, what are the measurements?

My machinist checked them. I have it back down there now to be bored - Installing TRW flat-tops. If the problem was there. It will be no more...
