Has anyone had connection problems with DataMaster on an `86 ECM? I'm using a radioshack USB-serial emulator and one of those ebay special ALDL things (with a 10K-ohm resister between A&B). It works for WinALDL but not for DataMaster- is that because DM is more finicky or am I just doing something wrong?
I even went through the DM manual and did all of the software changes recommended therein. Sometimes it will recognize the PCM and just not connect, other times it won't even tell me that the PCM is hooked up....
:banghead:
I was running Win2000 on my laptop, but I'm switching back to Win98 for software reasons (driver availability) so I'll see if that changes anything...
Are you trying to log or monitor ?
Have you read how to open file so you can log ?
Yeah, I went through the directions step-by-step, so that it's all hooked up and rarin' to go- it just won't find the PCM or receive data. I checked all the "USB cable" and "Disable ALDL handshake" options, etc etc... but it's just not finding the PCM. I'm reverting my laptop back to Win98 (from Win2000) just to see if that will ease some of the problems I've been having with drivers. If that doesn't work, then I suppose I'll just throw a tantrum and start throwing inexpensive personal belongings.
You need a MAX-232 based cable similar to the one made by steve ruse at WOT electronics. Do a google search and see if your cable looks like his. If it's just the regular 2 transistor cable, it will not work with DM. But it should work with Freescan and Craig Moates's software.
