I have just put 4 Goodyear GS-D3's size 275/40/17 on stock 93 Corvette 40th Ruby convirtable. I had Daytonas on the car and they were the same size. According to the Tire Rack the Goodyears ranked best on ride and noise. When I got the tires on the car and drove the car one mile home I had a hard time keeping my teeth in my mouth. The CD player did a lot of skipping. If these are the best what can the other brands be like. I thought Goodyear was the best and I wanted to put back what came on the car (brand). Any Ideas any thoughts? I'm not in to Racing. Water is not a problem because the car does not get out during the rain. My shop wants me to go to BF Goodrich but that tire shows last in the numbers on the tire rack. Need help here because I can't afford a set of GSC's. Also I don't want a caddy either. Help!!!!! :cuss
Sounds like there is simply too much air pressure in your tires. Let some out.
The only thing that tire has thats any different is an aramid (kevlar) overlay. Kevlar, while giving you razor sharp steering, does not ride as nice as nylon overlays.
Although I doubt anyone other than a trained test driver/engineer could pick that up.
I think they put too much air pressure in your tires. Check the air pressure. If its in spec, you might want to back it down to 32 PSI.
Man my GS-D3s are the best tires I've ever owned, hands down, I'd never go back to any of the other tires I've had on different cars. I'd try the pressure like was said above. Also, maybe your suspension or balancing or alignment is off? All I can say is good things about GS-D3s :yesnod:
I have my air pressure down to 24PSI. I have new Billsiens all the way around. New spring bushings in the back along with after market leaf spring.
The tire are dated 2003 production. Alignment of the car is what started all this. The old tires may be four years old but the depth gauge showed the same as the new good years. I have looked for anything loose and have installed a camber brace. I have the X brace also. 77,000 miles. Does it take some break in time????? :banghead:
I got mine in December. Very quiet and smooth tire at 32 psi. My car also has 77,000 miles on it with shocks about 2 years old. I know you don't drive in the rain but these tires are amazing on a wet surface. They don't do as well in cold weather, 40 degrees or below, IMHO. Good luck :)
Your reply sounds like you know what your talking about. So, let me say that on the highway the car rides fine. The tires seem to feel harder when hitting a bump or raised strips in the highway. I just expected a little less harsh ride with such high rated ride and noise tires.
What I'm asking about is not vibration or out of round or balance. I'm sorry I'm only on my 10th vette so I don't understand what LTPS means. (if I remember right) :banghead:
I have less than 100 miles on my GS-D3's set which replaced my stock
tires on my 90 with 10k original. These tires are extremely quiet, smooth
and grab the pavement like glue.
Like others have indicated, maybe you have a balance or tire pressure
issue. Once resolved I am sure you will appreciate the investment.
24 is toooo low. I run my fronts at 35 and my rears at 33. Where did you get them balanced and what kind of machine did they use? Are they on the stock rims? Did they bend a rim? I am guessing the balance is either way off or it was on and one of the weights fell off.
Anyone run the GS-D3s at the drag strip yet? How are the 60' times compared to what you took off?
The best I've been able to do so far are 1.9s with my 315/35-17 rears, but that is the same that I was able to do with my old 255/50-16 Dunlop SP8000 Sports. But..... the car does not have a good tune down low and launches with a horrible bog. I am very impressed with how these tires hook at street pressures. :yesnod: :yesnod:

Re: New tires goodyear GS-d3 (scorp508)
Scorp, good to hear. I have the Firestones and have been in the 1.96-2.01 range a number of times, but the car spins in 2nd really bad too.
I am really trying to figure out whether to buy an extra set of wheels and soem drag radials for the strip or if a set of tires will do both for me since I also auto-x a bit too.
For what its worth, a buddy with a Grand Sport ran 12.63 at Norwalk on a nice cool night. His only mod at that point was a cat-back.
Only thing he did different that night was borrow drag radials & remove spare tire. As I recall he was running right around 13 on street tires with spare in place.
Only caution with drag radials is clutch problems won't be far away......
