Default Exhaust Question ?

I'm looking at either the Corsa Cat-Back or Borla Cat-Back system for my 96 LT1. Does anyone know how they compare to each other ? This is my daily driving car and I want it to have that deep growl without being too loud. Any other suggestions on this will be greatly appreciated.

Oh boy, this is like asking people whether they like Coke or Pepsi.

The answer you'll get is: Get Corsa if you want loud only at WOT, and quiet at cruise. Get Borla if you want more noise all the time, but lots of resonance at cruise.

My advice, save your money and get a set of straight-through mufflers from Magnaflow, or cut off your mufflers and replace them with straight pipe. You'll have a better chance of getting what you want if you go to a muffler shop and have them fabricate a custom system, and you'll save $500 or so in the process.

Let the opinions begin...

Your best bet is to try to listen to each in person. Perhaps at a car show or if any friends have one. We all have different ideas as to what sounds good. Good luck.

My Tri-Flo is loud only at WOT and rumbles nicely at idle.... but others have had different experiences with identical system. Quality though, is the best.

:iagree: The Corsa sounds good when you get on it. The Borla will be loud all the time. A guy I know has it on his C5 and it sounded like a motor boat at idle, and light throttle. But it still sounded good :)

EDIT - If anyone wants to hear my vette on the dyno I can email you the video... It's about 1.3 MB in WMA format. The stupid free server I have doesn't allow files over 250KB

Dr. Pepper!!!! Just kidding. It really is just like that. The HP gain for each is very comparable. Pick the looks and sound you like - both are very personal.

I agree with LT-4CE. You should go to a few cruises and ask around what everyone has. Listen and pick the one you like. Also, ask if you can take a ride to see how the reasonance is. I picked mine that way.

That's the best info I've ever read on mufflers.

Thanks, so you like Magnaflow ? The system for 96 is muffler replacement only. Isn't it better to also replace the Y pipe ?

:iagree:

And make sure you compare systems based on similar cars... Compare LT1s against LT1s as the same system on the two different motors (LT1 vs L98) sounds different... And equivelent running gears, don't compare the 2.59 rear ratio car to a 3.07 rear car...

The reason for this is that the Vette has been the worst car I've ever owned for exhaust resonance in the cabin when you add an aftermarket system... I had a 96 LT1 w/3.07 perf axle before and I tried Flowmaster mufflers which killed me inside... The resonance was so bad that it was louder inside the car than outside...

The aftermarket systems are expensive enough as it is, I wouldn't want to experiment with several systems to find the right one...

I think your right. I need to go to some shows and listen to some different systems to see which ones I like the best. I guess I sometimes want things to be either black or white and someone to just tell me what's the best. Thanks for the input. This forum ROCKS !
