I would like to put a set of headers on my 85 vette. But, I don't wan't to spend big $ on them. Can you use standard " block hugger" headers on these cars? And were could I buy any other types like the full length, like hooker ones. thanks
You already have, "standard " block hugger" headers", on there. They're called stock exhaust manifolds. The primary tubes in the Hookers are too big for your car, anyhow. Check out a set of Heddman's.

RACE ON!!!
A lot of people on here will rag you about the cheaper headers such as Hedmans. Let me tell you a cheap header story. Back in '81 I bought a '76 Torino wagon with a blown moter, real cheap. I needed something to pull a race car with. I stuck in an old 351 Cleveland I had laying around and bought a set of $80 Cyclone headers because it was much cheaper than buying a stock exhaust system. Put on mufflers and ran pipes out the side. For six years I drove that car daily, pulled my race car all over Ohio with it, drove it all winter in road salt, etc. They never rusted out, cracked, leaked and I had the right side off twice to change starters and didn't even put a new gasket on, either time! I've got better things to spend my money on than $600-$800 headers! I too got frustrated looking for headers for my LT1 and bought a brand new set of Hedmans off of Ebay for $175 shipped. They are for an 84-91 but I'm sure I can make them work and they have the 1 5/8 primary tubes that I wanted. Go ahead, give me hell, header elitists!

I'm not sure if you can even get long tubes for an LT, without adapting the L98s. Unless you have BIG plans for the engine, the 1 5/8ths" will work better. The only thing I would suggest, is having them coated, if they're not. Good luck, and...

RACE ON!!!
Yes, you can get them but they want your first born male child in exchange. And yes, after I fit them I will have them coated inside and out for better scavenging and lower underhood temps.

Re: ? About headers on an 85. (vader86)
I bought a set of Hookers years ago for a 63 Ford big block. They were the most ill-fitting header I have ever installed. They were the most expensive header available at that time but I was class racing so thought that I needed the best. The bolt holes in the header flange did not even mate up to the head and many of them had to be elongated. The collector flange hit the frame, etc. And these headers went on in pieces and STILL didn't fit worth a poopie! This was in a full sized car! No excuse. That was the first and last Hooker headers I ever bought.
Hooker has very few complaints on fitment from the dozens of C4 people who have them, other than the Y-pipe.
I can certify that I'm one of the happy folks. According to my mechanic, the #2149's went in like a breeze AND the Hooker Y pipe did also. Zero problems with fitment. I must note that I have a ZF6.

Re: ? About headers on an 85. (bradvette)
Yes I've seen that most people are pleased with the fitment on the Hookers for a C4. I also realize my experience was long ago on a different car. But it bummed me forever on Hookers because it was just awful. Any other header I've ever installed on anything else has been a breeze by comparision. But while you all pay two or three times as much for your headers, most of which are 1 3/4" primaries, know that I'll be producing significantly more torque with my 1 5/8" in the ranges most often used in street driving. And if they go to hell in a few years I can buy another set and still be money ahead. He who laughs last, laughs best.
