i got new rear tires & brakes done this weekend. brake pads were replaced & rotors were turned. Goodyear did the brakes (probably a big mistake). I noticed I had a tiny occasional vibration in the wheel going 60-70 (highway driving). well earlier today the car vibrated harder than I've ever felt, it was bad. I thought something had to be wrong so I pulled over, everything looked ok, so i drove slow back home and it didn't do it again. well after playing around to see exactly what it was doing, i noticed under acceleration ( 50+% throttle) the car would start shaking really bad. anything less it would slowly start vibrating but never get nearly as bad as it would under harder acceleration.
I had the front wheels balanced to see if that would fix it, but didn't help at all. Will someone please help me out! I would like to know what's wrong before i take it back to goodyear. anything will help, thanks!
the vibration got pretty serious at some points. the front tires were re-balanced to see if that would fix it, but it was just as bad afterwards. It never did this until after the brakes. since the rear tires are new, and tons of vibration is coming from the steering wheel, it can't be the rears being off balance?
Do you feel the brake pedal pulsate when you step on the brakes on the freeway? If so, it's your brakes and in that case, I would take it back to Goodyear.
I'm no mechanic, but to be honest it doesnt seem it like it has anything to do w/ the brakes. I'm just curious if brakes can cause that problem by any means, cause I really have no clue.
I mean hell, it might not have anything to do w/ the new brakes, but i figured it was since I had them done a few days ago. I've heard of maybe the driveshaft? or could even the rear wheels cause it? it comes through the steering wheel, but when it gets really bad it's like the whole car..
I would really suggest that you first check how the wheels were mounted- the may have been over torqued or tightened inconsistently.
After that....I would go somewhere else. Yes, it will be more $$$, however if they couldn't (or didn't want to) do it right the first time, why would they do it right the second time?
Aligning a Vette is a special talent- take it somewhere where they do a lot of performance or expensive cars- someplace where the clients expect the job to be done right the first time.

Yes, I am going to check all the wheels ,and i agree about what you said about not taking it back to goodyear. I said the same thing... that if they couldn't do it right, , then they obviously don't know what they're doing.
I've had the car aligned before. Around the beginning of the summer '03. Actually, i brought the car to a private owned place called "Duncanville Tire" (I live in Duncanville), and it's just a small shop owned by a guy who's trying to make a living, by no means is this place fancy. But i trusted him and he aligned the car perfect and for a good price, so I think I'll go back to him.

i'm still dumbfounded.
I don't know if this is your problem or not but I have seen a sticking caliper shake a car so bad that you'd think a wheel was fixing to fly off. It would most likely be an intermittant problem too. This occured just driving down the road too, not when using the brakes. If the car wasn't doing it until they worked on it I would definitely make them fix it.
btw, I don't know if it's me, but it kills me to watch the mechanics take the car out for a drive, even if it is to see what the problem is...
No mechanic takes my Vette out for a ride without me in it. Besides, no mechanic touches my Vette, except for an alignment check. It doesn't leave my sight at the alignment shop and No Test Rides Without Me. If they don't like that approach, they don't get my business. Most good shops understand this and work with you.
