Default Oil Pickup Strainer

Did the Z51 have a different one from standard L98? The reason I ask is that I am switching to a 86 type block (from a 1985 2 piece rear seal) and the local parts guy is saying that there are two types of oil pickup listed for '86 depending on VIN number. So since my VIN number is an 85 (assuming 85 and 86 are different) I am in one of those situations. Hence the question. TIA

He showed me both: one has a shorter bend radius on the tube; the other has a much longer bend radius. Same pickup housing on both.

Ok, called the guy and asked him if the 85 uses the same oil pump/strainer (duh) the guy confirmed it. (some parts guys need you to suggest things  ) Then I asked him if he would look up my 85 VIN number and he confirmed that I need the one I didn't bring home! LOL These are Melling part numbers.
So,
If the EIGHTH digit from the left of the VIN number is an "8" then the correct strainer is p/n: 55-S3
If not, the p/n: 55-S1
Geeez.

My "Chevrolet" Corvette parts book confirms that you've been HAD by lazy catalog writers. Except for the 1989 LT5 engine, all 1984 - 1989 Corvettes only had 1 engine. ALL 1984 - 1989 (except the LT5, VIN code, "J") have an "8" for the eighth character in the VIN. If it isn't an "8", it isn't a Corvette. I love it when those computer screen reading idiots want to know if my '84 is a convertible, or what engine it has. Good luck, and...

RACE ON!!!
