Default new part # for replacement 86-89 ECM?

has anyone ordered a replacement ECM for their 86 - 89 Vettes recently? i was in need of a replacement, and i ordered a new ECM and PROM through a local Chevy dealership. they told me that the old part #16158259 had been replaced with a new part #88999194. i also ordered a new PROM to go with it (part#ARAP 1613 4193).

does anyone know what changes were made to either peice? because after installing these new parts, my car lost 3 tenths and 3mph in the quarter. ive been to a few different tracks, and the results have all been the same. damn it i though new parts were supposed to FIX things... not make them worse!

I do know they've changed proms to "update". But you have to remember, they're idea of update and yours may differ. :D Try an after market prom some one here has burned. You could probably ask here and get one.

By the way, why did you change anyway? Problems?

Put your old prom back in and see if the performance returns.
Sometimes the part numbers are just changed and sometimes the older proms were revised with improved idle speeds and driveability to address old complaints from before.Or maybe theyre more emissions strict and slowing the cars down some...who knows anymore.
Good Luck.
