I'm in the market for a base to go under my super ram. I ve found suppiers for the accel at $400.00 and the edelbrock for $350.00. Is the accel any better than the edelbrock? :chevy
I'm running the Edelbrock because I got it used for cheap, it fit fine for me. I'm running LTR's not a Superram if that makes a difference.
People on this board tend to think the Accel is better, on the ThirdGen board, people tend to think they are about the same. Either would be better than stock.
Guys I'm pretty sure Edelbrock casts the Accel base... I KNOW they cast their single plane EFI manifold. But aside from that here's my observations:
They are pretty close to equal flow wise. However, the Edelbrock base "seems" to have more meat in it than the Accel which means it can be ported further. Also I've welded up a lot of TPI style manifolds in order to fit 1206 or larger gaskets; the Edelbrock takes the least amount of bead over the ports of all the manifolds.

Thanks for the reply's ....with all being equal I'll go with the edelbrock and take the wife out to dinner with the $50.00 I'll save...........she's not real happy with the money pit sitting in the garage. :chevy
I wasn't really paying attension I just typed in edelbrock tpi manifold an webcrawler and came up with sites for suppliers...............the edelbrock was cheaper so then I came here to see what the low down was on the edelbock............I'll check and then return........might as well order one at the same time............by the way surf n sun was it a guy from canada that was going to sell you the accel? I was working on a deal myself for an accel and then he put it on ebay right in the middle of are deal. :chevy
I had heard the Edelbrock wasn't as good as the Accel. But I trust what Jeb says as truth and its all good. It doesn't really matter to me as Im going to have it Extrude Honed...which is another $375!!!!!!!!
I got the edelbrock and after porting, it flowed 8% better than a ported stock unit. I had plenty of fit issues though. Off the top of my head, injectors bottomed out, EGR solenoid didn't fit, air tubes in front didn't fit, runner entrance was severely undercut... No experince with the Accel.
Jeb, no flame intended here but I have a college friend that works during the summers at the foundry in Ohio that casts the SuperRam manifolds and the SuperRam plenum/runner kits for Accel. I'll have to contact him and ask him if he's working for Edelbrock now. :)

Hmmm looks like I'll pass on the Edelbrock.
As far as why Extrude Hone? B/c it works  Its a patented machining process that makes airflow unmatched. With my turbos, a ported/extruded manifold will be moving air so fast power is going to be huge. :yesnod:
Extrude Hone smooths out the manifold nicely, but it doesn't do much for the turns and bends that really hurt the flow. $375 will buy a lot of grinding wheels.

it will smooth out the metal with the porting going in the direction of the airflow. Plus with pressurized air its going to be an added advantage.
Put it this way there is a b2k similar to mine with a stock extruded base. his torque number is more than 100lbs higher than mine.
I've never had anything extrude honed, but I don't think even a perfectly designed manifold could make 100 lbft difference. From what I've heard, the EH process doesn't do enough reshaping where you need it. I'm sure it would help, but not enough relative to the cost. But, let us know how yours works out. I'll even contribute my ported stock manifold to test against
