Default Engine rebuild?

What am I looking at in budget and time.

If I stay 350ci.

Add a hotcam or bigger.
Port heads.
Add headers.
Stay with original crank.
I will pull the engine and bolt it back up. Ideas?

Is there something wrong (broken) in the bottom end? If not, why not just do a top end package and rebuild the motor when you're ready for a 383/396 combo?

The bottom is fine. Should I do a leak down to test the rings?

I guess you could... Do you have reason to believe there's something wrong with them? How many miles are on the car?

Is 99K a lot of miles for these engines?
Just curious :)

If it was my car, I'd do a compression/leakdown test with 99k on the odo. You want to make sure everything is okay if you're going to do a top end and spin everything up to 6500 rpms or so.
If everything checks out, go for the top-end with the plans of pulling the engine when you want to do the stroker (if that's what you want to do).
As for whether almost 100k miles is hight or not? It all depends on how well the engine has been maintained. I'm sure there are 100k+ LT1s out there that look better than some with 30k on the odo. Good luck!
