If I make a full turn, say hard right, or hard left, say in a parking lot, I hear a clicking, I know this will sound funny, but it sounds alot like when the CV joints were going out on my front wheel drive caravan. Mine's a 93, 93k miles, and I want to take care of her. What could this sound mean? Thanks!
When's the last time the gear oil in your diff was checked or changed? My u-joints didn't act like that when they went bad, more like a chirp and cornering didn't make it worse as I recall.
BUT when I recently put the wrong Red Line gear oil in the new D44 I experienced very close to what you're descibing, only there was a palpable grinding with it. Cleared right up when I got the right stuff in quickly.
Just another thought, and the gear oil is cheaper and easier, might not be a bad thing to have checked t any rate.
A couple of questions. Which ujoint would it be? How can I be sure? I tried to check the rear end oil a while back. Backed it onto my rihno ramps,so the back end is up, and crawled under to check. As soon as I loosened the access bolt, the oil came running out. I never got it all the way off. as soon as it started running out, I said to myself "must be plenty", and tightened the bolt back down before very much ran out. I've got a Manual. Gives me the procedure, but not the diognosis thru shared experience the way the board does. And besides"see 92 manual for instructions for this", it's OK. THANKS
Play in the half shafts can indicate bad u-joints. I experienced this first hand.
It caused clicking and squeaking sounds in the rear. New u joint solved that. :auto:
