A million thanks in advance to anyone who can help here. I have a '93 convertible with the standard non-Bose cassette audio system. I want to convert the entire system to the Bose Gold. I have the radio/cd/cassette and will need (I think) the tuner module, and amps+speakers. My question is to whether or not I need separate wiring throughout the car and if the original non-Bose tuner will work with the Bose Gold/Cd I purchased? Also, if anyone knows, where can I find a complete wiring diagram of the audio system only, not the electrical as what's in Chiltons and Haynes? Thanks.

I just removed my entire system if you are interested. I have a 94 that had the bose gold system. I have the tuner from the rear hatch, the front speakers/amps complete and the rear speakers/Amps minus the plate (Had to use it to mount my 6x9s). As far as the wiring goes I don't know if the non-bose wiring is the same or not but realy wouldn't want to go trough the hassel of removing all the wiring. Do you have wiring to the rear compartment? If not then it is different. The bose system has the head unit up fornt but the tuner is in the passangers side compartment in the hatch.
Well, thanks for the hearty welcome.
Apparently, you have never heard a regular non-Bose system while driving with the top down. The thing is...neither have I. :) Besides, with the mods I have, I need a more powerful system and I want to keep the factory look.

I am not sure if you are willing to part with your audio system or not. However, if I am not mistaken, I believe the coupes have different speaker locations and enclosures than the convertibles. The speakers and amps themselves are the same, but the enclosures are different. My front speaker locations are along the door sills and the rears are directly under my convertible hatch directly behind the seats. I don't believe I can easily mount coupe enclsures. I may be wrong here. Thanks

Well, no I haven't heard the base Bose, but the Bose gold was trash in the 94 Vert I had. I never got around to changing the sounds system as I spun a bearing, and got rid of the car. The first thing to go in the ZR-1 was the stereo, and it was even working !!!!
The front pods on coupes and drop tops are different. As are the rear encolsures.

If your looking for the Bose sysytem to be a significant upgrade in sound I think you'll be unhappy with the results. I yanked my entire Bose system from the car last year and replaced with aftermarket. The sound was 10x bettter than the Bose it replaced and best of all I sold the Bose crap on Ebay and it paid for most of the upgrade!

Thats right, you'll be going backwards in soundstaging and quality! No doubt the wiring would have to be done again, because thats what is done to put an aftermarket system in to begin with. My advice? Don't even consider going back to Blose. Instead, upgrade your amps, its much less expensive, makes sense, and you'll be alot happier being unassociated with Bose.
