Default Questions: TB Bypass, Plenum porting and air temp sensor

I've got the upper plenum and soon the runners of the L98 off in preperation of either a new intake manifold gasket or just tightening up the manifold bolts (small coolant leak near the thermostat housing). With the plenum off, I took the liberty of begining the polsihing process (outside) which is looking REALLY nice. bit a few pits that still need more sanding. So now I need some ideas on what else to do while it's off.

I've already knocked down the egr blockers and smooth that area up as per the thirdgen.org site. I'm wonder if I should knife-edge/ round the dividers in the plenum that go to the runners? Other than that, I'm going to punch out the gasket a little and port the runners/plenum to match.

Next, I've already bypassed the throttle body and I'm getting ready to polish that up too, but I'm wondering about that lower plate. Do I even need that plate and sensor now that coolant no longer runs through it? I could make a block off plate if nothing bad comes from having that sensor unplugged.

Lastly, I want to move the air temp sensor on the bottom of the plenum. I'll splice and heat shrink to extend the wiring, but I'd like to know where you guys relocate that sensor to?

Here's the begining of the plenum polishing:

Here's the plenum porting...still need to clean it up a little, but the bulk of it is done.

Nice job on thte porting. I may have gone a little too far on removing the EGR hump, but I know how to fix that. I also gasket-matched the plenum and runners, making the plenum-to-runner holes as large as possible. Some guys siamese the openings on the plenum and runners. Get a MAT relocation kit from any of the major catalog companies. The sensor gets relocated to the back of the air box, in front of the MAF sensor. The kit supplies the necessary equipment. It is a good mod, especially for throttle response and for enhancing future mods. :seeya

Yeah, I'm seriously considering siamese'ing the plenum runner side, but leaving the base alone. I'll see if I can find a place to put that sensor before I go shelling out the $$$ for the kit. Thanks.

Does anyone really know about removing the lower coolant passage on the TB and covering with a block off plate??? It'd be sooo nice if I could ditch that thing.

If I read your post right, you want to do away with the sensor on the bottom and replace the lower plate with a flat plate?

NO CAN DO!!! That sensor is the Idle Air Control (IAC) sonenoid which the ECU used to control idle speed. Without it, your idle would not respond to changing loads IE, air conditioning etc. even if you could set it manually.

Alright, cool. The IAC stays then.

I removed all of the excess metal around the iac I just kept three screw holes around if you look at the gasket you can see what you need to keep.It makes it easier to get to vacum lines under throttle body.also looks much cleaner.
