Last weekend, I cleaned out the whole intake (air filter/throttle body). at first I thought, 'Wow, what a difference! I can feel the air flowing and the exhaust seemed extra loud.' But after driving it for a while, I am noticing that the 4th gear isnt locking. At first, it frightened me and I thought it might be the tranny slipping. Im almost positive thats not the case. It happens most driving from around 50-60. And it seems to have problems locking into 4th. Im pretty sure I screwed something up removing and cleaning all that stuff. Or maybe the cleaned out system was just too much for the sensors or computer that regulates this? Is this a problem with the MAF sensor? Is it easy to fix? If so, tell me how. Help! :smash: :smash: :smash:
Re: 4th gear on A4 not locking... fix? (McShagger)
NOPE
I believe your problem is your TV cable. When you clean it out did you take the Plenum and throttle body off.... It surely sounds like the TV cable...........
But let see what the other guys think :lurk: :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod:

Which car? Because the '92 doesn't have a MAF and the '96 doesn't have a TV cable I don't think.(my '93 does, but I thought in '94 they didn't use it anymore).

It is the cable above your Throttle cable on your TB,,,,, I belive you have one...
You can adjust it by, pushing the button on the little box right behind the TB and when you push in that button , slide the black cable located behind it, to the rear, just a little bit,,,adjust it drive and if need be adjust it again,,,, this I believe is your porblem

Thanks a lot. I will try that. It seems like its getting worse every day. What if its worn out or something? Does something like this ever need replacing? If so, is it ez?

This procedure does not work on the 92 and 93 version. The difference in these cars are they have traction control. The TV cable goes to the traction control box. The procedure is detailed in the factory service manual but it involves disconnecting some of the cables, cocking the traction control cam, inserting a 1/8 in drill bit to hold the cams in place, and setting the tension with a in. lb. torque wrench.
