Car is an 88 A4 with 2.59's. I had my upper plenum off for a good cleaning recently, and I noticed that on both sides, the small hole in the bottom center of the upper plenum was basically clogged up with carbon. I'm sure at least some air was flowing, but it was definitely hindering air flow.
Anyway, after I got everything cleaned up and back together I've noticed my shifts are different. In particular, I don't shift into 4th at light throttle until about 55 mph now, and it used to be 45. I like my 1-2 and 2-3 much more now, but I don't like having my overdrive higher since I lose a lot of the benefit.
Would this be because of letting it breathe better, or did I bump the cable during the R&R of the throttle body? I'm thinking it's probably the latter but I'd like to ask before I start messing with it.
Check the TV Cable. It's located on the triple stud throttle cable bracket on the left side of the plenum. Press the button in and move it fowards or backwars. You might have disturbed it when you unbolted the bracker from the plenum.
Foward= Shifts sooner
Backwards= Shifts later
