Default Autronic ECM

I'm getting a great deal on autronic ECM ( approx. $1000 ).
http://www.autronic.com
I would get just custom made chip but it's hard to find someone
in Croatia that knows what he's doing.
I have a man in Slovenia ( neighbour county ) that could do it
and it would cost arround $500. But the problem is that I should
get new chip now for mods that I've allready done, and I'll need
a new chip when I buy superram.

I've seen a few fellow members that have much experience with
making custom chips, and I would be happy to pay someone
who knows what he's doing, but I don't know if it's possible to make
a good chip without having car on dyno.

What do you think? Could someone make a chip for me if I
would get some readings from engine?

Or should I get this autronic unit?
( It won't be easy to get $1000 :nonod: )

I know nothing of the Autronic unit. For a little more money (here) you can get an Accel DFI or some of their competitors units, that are programable from a laptop computer. In many cases, chip burning seems to take a few tries to get it right. Even if the service is guaranteed, and you only pay one fee for a single set up, the inconveniece can be major, especially if it is mail order. A $500.00 chip or two will quickly make a small price difference, insignificant. Good luck, and...

RACE ON!!!

That Autronic ECU has some interesting features, and for $1000, you appear to be getting a good deal on the unit. I've seen it sold for $1695 where I could locate it. I'm assuming that you're going to get the SMC model.

It appears to have a wizard which helps you tune your base fuel and VE tables by actually driving the car. Looks interesting assuming that the base maps that they provide would actually start and run your motor.

Also, you can use a standard Bosch wide band O2 sensor which is cheaper than what Accel and FAST make you use.

You might also want to check with Mac McKenzie at http://www.fasttrackperformance.com. He makes plug in harnesses which allow you to use your Corvette stock wiring harness with some modifications and plug into the ECU. This lets the GM computer run your dashboard/AC/TCC and the aftermarket ECU to run your fuel and spark. This would ease your installation. Mac sells the Autronic ECU as well, so he may be developing the plug in harness now if he hasn't already.

While this ECU looks like a really good option price wise, I think that this investment will cost you MUCH more than $1000 when you add up all of the hidden costs. I'm not saying don't buy it, but make sure that you're making an informed decision before going forward.

Good luck!

Ron
