Someplace I seen something on updating the power window reulators on the 84 to 87. I think it said you could replace it with a 88 regulator. Am I right??? Need some help.

The regulators your looking for are for an 86.Some people on this site have stated that some of their 86s have the early, ribbon type regulator.I got mine from Ecklers, they had the best price at $200 apiece. When you talk to someone about the part, make sure to tell them you want the upgrade regulator.
Bought a late 86-??? window regulator yesterday off of Ebay. Anyone have the instructions to convert it to my Early-86???????? Appreciate any help.

In mid 86 GM switched to an electric motor instead of the old ribbon style.
84-86E cars can upgrade to the later regulator, requires some holes to be drilled, but the new regulator is about 2x as fast as the ribbon-style.
 i don't understand so are you saying that the 84-86e didn't have a motor at all?
does anybody have any tech docs or pictures or anything that show this procedure? :seeya
They all have electric motors... the 84-86E has a plastic ribbon piece of crap that is not only slow but breaks and causes the window to bind up ....The 86-96 is all metal..Looks like an erector set.. works great but you will have to drill two holes in the bottom of the door... I bolted mine in at the top.. Then had to guess the location on the bottom since theres no room inside the door to use a drill.. I ended up slotting the holes out some to make it fit.. Mine works perfect and I'm happy with it... There might be a better way to locate the holes but this worked good.. You do want to take the regulator back out before drilling the holes however... I got mine on Ebay for about 80 each shipped...And don't ask me why but I had to reverse the wires to the motors to make the switches work properly(polarity)...Hope all this helps you out some.... :auto:
The 84 to 86 early had motors, but they were lowered and raised by a nylon ribbon arrangement where the late 86 and later have a worm drive and gear mechanism. What I'm after is instructions to convert to this later setup that I purchased off Ebay.
