I tried doing a search but didn't find an answer to my question so I am posting it:
I have a 91 auto and am removing my injectors for cleaning, I have the plenum off. My question is can I remove the fuel rail and injectors without removing the runners, it looks like there is enough room to do this, has anyone removed their injectors leaving the runners on ?
Thanks.
There are 4 torx screws that hold the crossover tubes into the rails. Remove those and you can pull the rails apart. There are o-rings on each end of the crossovers. Make sure you coat them with motor oil when you reinstall to make sure they slide in nicely and don't bind.
Thanks for the info, can I remove the runners without removing the valve covers ? Do you think it would be better to remove the runners then the entire fuel rail ?
I would suggest taking the fuel rail off in one peice. Unless you want to re-do the seals and what not. Not a bad idea with the age, but also they say don't fix it if it's not broke. I think the stock runners can be taken off with a long torx bit. I bought a long alen head wrench that fit the torx, then cut the "L"/curve part off and put a socket on the end. Worked like a champ
I removed the runner with valve covers on i found the perfect tool for the lower bolts .My extra roof tool the torx bit on the top tool is the same as the runner bolts.I used that and a 1/4 drive ratchet with a short extension.
With my runners in place, I removed the fuel rail assembly by separating just the left rail first. No need to separate both rails from the cross pieces.
Thanks for the help. I was able to get at the bottom runner bolts with the valve cover on, so I am planning on taking the runnners off , since some of bolts were not that tight. that way I can install new gaskets and make sure everything is torqued properly.
Thanks again.

Be sure to remember the runner bolt that threads from the inside (from intake). Its easy to miss that one if your not looking for it.
