Default Exhaust Size Question?

I was looking through MAD's website and noticed on the Borla exhaust sytems that the 2 1/2" exhaust has half the horse power of the 3" system. I am looking to get either the KBD mufflers or muffler eliminators. Should I get the 3 in or will the size not make a difference with just mufflers or elim.? I do not have any mods on the car if it would make a difference.... Thanks

Stock car I think either one will make a difference over stock mufflers. I will warn you though. You are most likely to pickup some res. around the 1300-1700RPM range. May not but don't be shocked if you do.

The three inch system is just unnessisarily louder on a stock vehicle.

For an LT1 with essentially dual exhausts the 2 1/2" system will be fine to about 400chp.

For an L98 with Y pipes I would use 2 1/2" for separate pipes into/from 3" at the Y.

I don't understand what "the Borla exhaust sytems that the 2 1/2" exhaust has half the horse power of the 3" system" means.
Even if you have a built motor, there's not much chance that you will need anything larger than a 2.5" setup. Corsa did a dyno comparison on a stroked ZR1 with both a 3" and a 2.5" system. (both were Corsa setups) That car made more HP and TQ with their 2.5" system. Bigger is not always better as we have found in cams and heads.

I saw it in the Ecklers catalog. It was the B&B Tri-Flow Perf Exhaust. This is a direct quote from the catalog.
Note: 2 1/2" systems are available in lieu of the 3" systems at a lower cost, however, sound quality is the same, but horspower is half that of the 3" systems.
So I guess it is just there systems and not any others.

Guys that have LT4s (stock exhaust size: 2 3/4") run Corsas (2 1/2") left and right and get dyno proven gains. As previously stated, 2 1/2" can flow *more* than enough for most motors. It's all about the mufflers (or "resonators").
