Default Newbie here with easy questions

Hey, just bought my first corvette, 92 Bright Red 6 spd. coupe.

The transmission seems to have a whining noise, but feels good and falls right in to gear. Is the whine anything that I should be concerned with.

Also, I am only averaging about 17 mpg over about 600 miles of mixed city and highway driving. Is this right or a bit low. The previuos owner kept great records and it shows that he changed the plugs 30,000 miles ago, that was also 8 years ago. Should I change plugs now?

Thanks Guys

I have auto but have 4 friends with 6 sp. all are somewhat noisy. I am sure that the 6 sp owners on forum will give you good input. And yes change plugs

Welcome to the Forum and congrats on your new Vette.

:iagree: about the plug change.

Don't rely on city or "mixed" gas mileage as it depends too much on conditions and driving style. Instead take it out on a flat stretch of highway, set cruise and take some readings. Here I would expect around 30+mpg with 2.59 gears in 6th gear.

Mine is a '92 6 speed as well and it is just a little noisy when sitting still in nuetral with the clutch disengaged.

I get about 28-30 mpg when cruising at 65-70 mph. Around town its usually around 18 - unless I'm feeling a little froggy :D

Reset your average mpg every time you fuel up for a more accurate reading

MY $.02:
Probably a good idea to get a complete tune-up, 8 years and 30K is a long time. It'll also give you "peace of mind". Why wait???

Hello neighbor....

Every GM stick car I've owned has been a little noisy in neutral with the clutch out, it's normal...

Also, seeing you live here in Long Beach, and probably drive the 405 I'm surprised you get the economy you do since we have traffic lights every 10 feet or so...

I don't know about the 6spd car I have (only had it a month now), but my previous Vette was an automatic with the performance axle ratio... Around town here in L.B. I averaged about 14.5mpg, where as around town in Arizona (visiting mom), I would average 18-20 in town and 26-28 on the highway...

As far as the plugs, it might give you peace of mind to pull one or two and just look at the condition... They're probably fine, but myself, I would worry about the threads not being turned for 8 years... Then again, if the car is running perfectly you might now want to touch it, your call there...
