700R4 help - confused shifting
Car is 91 Pontiac GTA. Original trans died around 185K miles - pretty good for a 700. I put in a junkyard tranny from - I believe - a 305 f body. Shifts are soft. 1/3 throttle 3-4 shift feels like it goes into 4, drops back to 3 for a split second, and goes into 4 again. 3-1 and 2-1 kickdown take way too long to engage - not like it's slipping, just taking too long to engage 1. Sometimes gets confused on 1-2 heavy throttle upshifts also. I have adjusted the TV correctly to no avail. I have also moved the slider in a bit to firm up shifts - it helps, but I hate 'adjusting' the TV that way.
My thoughts - 305 valve body not playing well with 350 TPI torque, TV cable not playing well with 305 tranny, or it's a junkyard tranny - learn to rebuild soon.
Any other thoughts?

I think there may be a diference between the TV linkage inside the trany on a TBI and a TPI/DFI tranny. Did the trany you got come from a vehicle with TBI? I put a LT1 in my 84 and had simmilar isues. Never could get it to feel right. The fix I found was cheap and effective, it is called a TV corection kit and it is less then $10. Basicly it is a spring that goes on the end of the TV cable after the clip. What this does for you is gives you firmer shifts at lower RPMs and still allows for full TV tension at WOT. Give doug a call at 843-747-3752. They are a transmision wholesale outlet and carry just about everything for all makes and models of transmisions. Explain your problem and ask him about the TV correction kit.

I don't know exactly what the tranny came from. It was marked 92 Camaro 68,000 miles. The seller said it was from a V8, but not which one. I bet it was from a TBI just because there were so many of them.
