Replacing a CAM
How difficult of a job is it to replace the CAM? I am being told that my #2 cylinder is getting too much fuel and could be a CAM problem.... Am considering doing this myself... Anybody else done one on their own?

Re: Replacing a CAM (tiedt)
Just lots of time and patience and a Haynes or other manual. It took me about 22 hours on my '86.

Re: Replacing a CAM (tiedt)
Just takes a good bit of time and unbolting alot of things, as well as replacing a good many gaskets.
How can a fueling problem in one cylinder be cam related, it would make more sense if it were an injector problem.

Your cam is NOT causing your #2 to run fat.

:iagree:
The Cam is not too hard as long as you are mechanically inclined somewhat. But I doubt it is the source of your problem.

Re: Replacing a CAM (tiedt)
I still have to check all the other fuel injectors, but the injector on #2 had 16 ohms on it. Just from what I have read before, that seems to be within a good range....Like I said though, I still need to check the others to see if it is within the same range. If the Ohms are all good, I would think it would be a bad cam? Any other ways I can diagnose the problem..... :jester

Re: Replacing a CAM (tiedt)
The injector could be dirty and causing it to stick open.

Re: Replacing a CAM (GS345)
Put a dial indicator on the #2 intake and exhaust valve spring retainers then do the same thing with two others. Bump the engine over and make a note of max valve lift.
Compare the lift readings you get. If the #2 lobe(s) are worn it'll show up in the valve lift readings.
Remember to compare intake with intake and exhaust with exhaust.
