The CNC'd Lingenfelter heads were sold to another party, so my luck ran out.
So now I'm looking at getting my '90 heads ported. I'm going to have an LPE 219 cam & ported Superram base/Large tube runners/ported plenum & 52mm TB setup ith this. So to maximize, the heads are going to have to be pulled and properly ported.
What do I look for in finding the right shop to do this correctly? Granted, a CNC job isn't necessary (and I would assume way expensive anyway), but I assume a full port job is in order? What exactly does this entail, and abouyt how much should this cost?

On an L98 head, the exhaust is the weak side. Full port and polish on the exhaust port and bowl. Intake side would need the throat and short side opened up. Chamber could be polished and have the spark plug unshrouded. You would want to have the valve guides for both intake and exhaust worked. At least a 3 angle job on both valves.
Depending on the shop and the quality of their work, I'd say you're looking at about $800 - $1000. For a full-on race port, we charge 12-1500 where I work. But that's on big block heads that need to flow at the maximum.
Also, make sure you get them flowed before and after, to see what kind of gains the porter made. A bad port job can flow WORSE than an untouched head. And don't pay any attention to flow #'s above .500 for an L98 head. You're looking for increased flow down low to mid range where a street engine lives.
I think that when you check around for prices for porting your heads, or buying new ones, you'll find that unless you port your own, buying new and selling your old ones would be about as cost-effective. Plus you'll have much better flowing heads. JMHO.
I made the mistake of working up a set of L-98 heads. I have more money wrapped up than I care to admit. Car runs very well but I could have bought a set of heads that made more power and cost less. Just my $.02 :nono:

I'm glad I read this thread when I did - I have a set of L98 '113' heads that I have been thinking about doing work to (port and polish, larger valves, etc...). I know that this won't be cheap, but if you are saying that money would be better spent on another set of heads, I have to ask: which heads would you have rather spent your money on?
I would suggest AFR or Brodix heads. Port CC (180-190-210) depending on your engine size, expected RPM, cam, etc. Contact manufacturer for proper size, and price.
P.S. ...stock iron Vortec heads flow around 230 CFM and cost about $450.00 new, so I wouldn't be too hot on those $1200.00 units.
