As I was driving down to Charleston, the AC system completely quit. There are no lights besides the orange back lighting when the head lights are on. It won't even display the outside temp. I checked the AC fuse and it was blown, so I stuck another one in. Well, right after I turned the car on, it blew the fuse. Any ideas on where to search? Guessing it's some sort of short.
Also, the instant/average mileage display is stuck on average. I can't change it from avg to inst or range. It won't even switch from odometer to trip. Another thing that happened after this is when I turn the car off, the radio/power doesn't stay on. Normally power stays on until the driver's door is open or until 10 or 15 minutes go by.
When I was in Knoxville before I left for the trip, I had the family mechanic charge the AC system and he said it looked like there was something wrong with the wiring. I only wiring I know of is coming off the compressor, and those look fine. Any idea?
Loose ground wire would cause the AC to not work at all, provided the Compressor was still good.
I know theres a green wire coming from the compressor on mine that needs to be hooked to a permanent ground, since for some reason mine has a ground wire problem.
I'd look for an open or short to ground in the compressor power wire. Should be dark green from the compressor over to the PCM and from there green/white over to the relay. If the wire is touching metal it will blow the fuse and nothing will work. It might also be a shorted relay or the contacts could be touching at the relay or the compressor so check inside the connectors.
The dash functions could be high resistance or corrosion in the function select switches. It might also be a problem in the serial data line from the PCM. See if it will flash or display a code 12 to check out the serial data line. I'm assuming you don't have flashing System or Check Engine Light?
I'm not that familiar with the radio but I think there is a delay relay in line with the radio fuse. You might check your owner's manual.
