on my 96LT4, i want to get a pair of mufflers with the dual chrome oval or circular tips on each side. im goin to be running them with no resignator(x-pipe) and with the stock exhaust manifolds(for now :D ) im looking for some opinions on a good muffler for this.. primarly i want it to sound clean, not like a 5.0! thanks
Since no one chimed in yet I'll give you my 2 cents. I think the Magnaflows look and sound the best for the money. They are completely polished stainless. I love the looks of mine. I had them welded in place and they were about $330 shipped for the pair, plus about $50 to have a local shop weld them in. I can't say they sound like a 5.0 mustang, but I have yet to here a C4 that sounds like that (I like the 5.0 sound too) Obviously resonance isn't a concern for you as both flowmaster and Magnaflow do tend to resonate. I didn't find it objectionable, because I've always had older muscle cars that resonate at a particular RPM. The Mag have a slight resonance around 1500 RPM's, but with my 6spd that is easily fixed. Good luck.
Flowmaster makes Vette-specific mufflers, two types. One is just aluminum, one has stainless steel tips. IMO, Flowmaster will sound better (some resonance ~ 1700rpm), and they will both ofer ~ the same performance benefits over a stock muffler. That being said, the mangaflow's tips look a bit better IMO.
They are both good mufflers so it is realy prefrence. I like the more mellow tone of the magnaFlows so that is what I used. Good choice either way
I have a 94 LT1, I was looking at Magnaflow as one of my options for exhaust and I think that's what I'm gonna get, just the mufflers. I wanted to remove the resonator as well.... would I have to put something in the resonator's place if I were to take it out? thanks!!!!
Renegade21, yes you will have to put something in its place. The best thing to put would be an X-pipe. you can also run straight pipes and make it a true dual system
The part number I ordered was 15623. You can definately find them cheaper than what is on the website. The tips are included. Just cut the old ones off and bolt these up.
I just had the MagnaFlows put on my 96 a week ago. I haven't turned the stereo on since. I also had them welded on instead of just bolting them on. I then got some heat resistant silver paint and painted the pipe that's visable from the rear so now all the pipe looks the same leading to the mufflers. The part number for mine is 15623. I now plan on replacing the resonator with an X-Pipe. Peformance Peddler (1-866-399-4215)seems to have the best price on the mufflers with free shipping. You might want to go ahead and get the X-Pipe at the same time to avoid shipping on that later. I got my mufflers first then called back to get the x-pipe and they said it will be $12 for shipping. They also look great !
you get what you pay for but! in the case of magnaflow's LT1 mufflers you get what you didn't pay for iam talking about RESONANCE and a whole lot of it
yes they look good but the interior resonance is TERRIBLE. look into the dynomax's oem replacement flow through mufflers R# 17690 L#17689 cost for both $230.00 at summit thats a least $100-200 cheaper than the magnaflow LT1 chrome mufflers. and they don't RESONATE!
My vote is for neither. If you don't want to buy a cat-back, go muffler elims, great sounds and cheap as hell. If you want a cat-back, go with corsa, tri-flo, or power effects. I went with tri-flo and couldn't be happier.
I agree that the Dynomax Superturbo's sound great. But, I just bought a pair of generic ones from Summit, had my LT4 tips welded on, and had them powdercoated black. The mufflers from Summit were something like $38/ea, and powdercoating was $10/ea. They look stock, and sound real good. Not a fan of the raspy sound of straight through mufflers.
I've heard a lot about the Power Effects system. It seems to me that with it's ability to adjust the sound, that might be the way to go. They are black though, and to me don't look as good as stainless. One thing also, I once saw a post that had the sound included if you wanted to hear it. I wish someone would do that with as many of the systems on it as practical. It might help us decide what we like best.

:iagree: as well. The manual tranny helps ALOT. Autos seem to have more trouble, no matter what catback is used, or it so seems from everything I read here.
Resonance in my A4 3.07 LT1 with Tri-Flo is no issue whatsoever, except for when declining in speed, when I had the resonator ON, long story, there was even less resonance, highway speeds aren't even noticeable. Hope that helps

I think you may have had an installation problem, if the resonance was that bad for you. Or maybe you've never actually had them on your car........
