The problem is if you go at least 4 to 5 miles the car suddenly starting starving for fuel. It hardly with hold an idle but if you turn off the car for 30 seconds then start it back up your good for another 4 to 5 miles then the same problem occurs... now I replaced the fuel pump with a factory one and the same with the fuel filter. That didn't solve the fueling issue any ideas??
another question.. what are you guys using as a dionostic tool on these cars.. I see they have the same service port as my syclone underneigh the dash but my datamaster software doesn't support the 86.
My 86 had a similar problem except it was a little longer than 5 miles. When I filled the tank the problem went away for a little while. The fuel pump was the problem and once replaced everything worked great.
Did your pump have the basket / screen on the pickup?
I would attach a fuel pressure guage to the rail and duct tape to the winshield. Watch guage when car has its heart attack. This will tell for sure if it is fuel or not
Could be one of three things I can think of, :yesnod:
1. A clogged converter.
2. Fuel pump is bad or clogged.
3. Low fuel pressure from an obstuction in the line

Ditto, if you do this you will prove or disprove you fuel issues right there, and it won't take but ten minutes.
hummm not sure they look to be in good shape externally.
Another thing, could this be ecm related?? I had a truck do the same thing except turn all the way off not just run like poopie and it turned out to be the computer. Is this a possiblity?
I didn't, I just put my second one in with in a week to see if the new previous one had anythign in it from possibly banging the fuel pump around in the tank during the install.. the filter idd have a little something in it but nothing that could be causing any problems
Your problem could be ecm/ground related but this is the order I would check if it were my car. First use my fuel guage trick. if no then I would loosen the exaust flange bolts as much as possible without disconnecting them. take car for a loud ride. this will release enough exhaust to check catalytic converter. next I would clean all grounds on engine or cylinder heads . My guess is your problem falls in this group. The cost to check/ clean grounds is real cheap. If you still have problems after doing these things I am sure we could diagnose further. good luck! :smash:
