I have a 1996 LT1 Corvette that has been modified by removal of the cats and the resonator (there are straight pipes from the exhaust manifolds back to the mufflers). When I got the car it ran very well. Now it runs very ragged, with a rough idle, and poor, stumbling acceleration. It is putting out a lot of smoke when you step on the accelerator, but only from the right sided tailpipe. I took all of the plugs out, and the right sided plugs were all coated with carbon. Left sided plugs had normal wear. I replaced the plugs with no change in the problem. Since then I have taken my Corvette to a shop, where they have replaced O2 sensors, EGR valve, checked vacuum lines, distributor and distributor wires, and nothing has made the car run better. Has anyone here had a problem like this? I appreciate any help.

If you already replaced the O2 sensors, and cleared any stored codes (disconnecting the battery will do so) then I would guess this is an Optispark-related issue.

96 has 4 O2 sensors 2 pre-cat and 2 after the cat, just curious, what did you do with the after cat O2's? Not that they affect A/F mixture, but they'll throw a code, and maybe put you in open loop mode.
