It has been one thing after another, so I am looking for any short cuts that folks might have to suggest for me.
After have a rebuilt tranny installed by a supporting vendor, they must have misinstalled the speedo gears so it mangled them bad. I have new ones from Iklers on the way. I have done this before when I replaced the rear end, but I had just about everything off the car so it was no big deal. Now I dread doing it the normal way:
1. Drop the cross brace
2. Drop the exhaust
3. Disconnect the drive shft
4. Remove the C-beam
5. Remove the tranny tail assembly
6. install new gears
Any ways to cut any steps on a 90?
Should I replace the speed sensor? Not sure if they screwed that up too.
I am doing this as we speak on my '89. There is no other way that I can see to do it. Don't forget to take off the center console cover, remove the four "acorn" screws holding the shifter plate. You will need to lean the engine/tranny down to get to the top bolts of the tailhousing. I had to pull off the plastic driven gear off the shaft and install a new metal gear (had to torch it for 10 minutes to work it onto the shaft :banghead: . I am putting everything back together tonight.

Were did you get a metal gear?
That looks like the way to go. Changing the plastic gear on the speedo sesnor is a peice of cake. I would love to put a metal gear on there with the right number of teath for 3.73 gears.
I responded to your IM but I'll answer here too. The cone gear inside the VSS is still plastic. Since I went with 4.11s, the plastic gear on the tailshaft was replaced with metal. I was going to go with 3.73s before and would only have needed to change out the plastic cone gear in the VSS and not touch the one on the tailshaft.
