Default Replacing Driver's Door Glass....

I haven't yet taken the door panels off and started this project, but according to my shop manual I need a special socket tool in order to remove the nuts that go on the studs that hold the glass to the regulator.

Does anyone have a comparable tool for this or means to get this done?

thanks,

No you don't need a special tool. I think I used a pair of needle nose pliers. If memory serves me correctly???

I think "the tool" is going to a minor problem as you look back on the experience. The major "big problem" will be to adjust the glass where you do not have the pesky, wind noise. I have been trying to get a quiet ride in my 89 for some time and have not found the correct technique. I would like to see a glass adjustment procedure.....and you will too! OMG...400 posts and this car is addictive!!!

One side of mine was tight enough to need no tool (to hold the stud while turning the nut.)

The other side I was able to get with right-angle needle-nose pliers.

:iagree:
Yep I just used a set of right angled needle nose. There is a disk there with 2 holes in it that spins off like a nut. So the needle nose fits right in the holes and it comes off pretty easy.

My 86 had 10mm nuts holding it on ...piece of cake... adjustment was trail and error but pretty painless... I have three more of these to do and hopefully I'll feel the same way afterwards :auto:

The tool they are talking about is called a spanner wrench. It is for the spanner nuts.

In my 12 years of replacing auto glass I have never used one, I always went the route of the needle nosed pliers.

I had a bitch of a time trying to get the guide on the front of the glass off. The 10mm nut just spun. I ended up ducttaping the glass and breaking it to get it out. After 12 years in the business all it took was a Vette to make me humble again. These can be a pain to adjust.

:iagree:
These look just like the wrenches used to remove grinding wheels from your die-grinder.

They have two pegs sticking out sideways, spaced a certain distance apart that go into the holes in the window stud's base.

That's the spanner socket alright.
