my opti has over 140k miles on it and i want to do something about that when i replace the cam this fall/winter. i was considering the dynaspark but they are extremely expensive. on the plus side their site says they are rebuildable so you dont have to buy a new one everytime it dies. does anybody know how much it costs to rebuild one of these? is it worth it? what do you think i should do?
I'm going with a DelTeq setup that removes the high voltage from the Opti and uses Northstar coil packs. They're working on a way to replace the optical components as well. Here's a link... http://www.delteq.com/opti_stage1.htm
No doubt the Dynaspark is a quality unit. However, a cap and rotor is still a cap and rotor. While I understand (and believe) the rationale for the body, bearing, etc being considered higher quality in the Dynaspark, I don't see how their cap and rotor setup will be anything more than marginally better at best.
Of course the need to upgrade depends on usage. If you got 140k miles out of the OEM setup and it runs fine, why spend the extra money? If you intend to change your usage, then certainly an upgrade should be considered. I'm making the switch because I've gone thru 3 Opti's in 7 years. They apparently just don't like lots of high rpm and heat. Just my opinion.
i know he is a forum member so hopefully the owner od dynotech engeneering will reply and tell us how much it is to "rebuild" a dynaspark.
no offence to the owners but i just really dont care for hte coil system on C4 motos. i know they perform well i just personally hate the way they look. thats why i will stick with a rotor type. may just go with a new 96 opti cause mine has lasted but i think it is in its last leg. i am not running as much power as i should

I *THINK* it's about $250.00. That is how much the parts cost, you can DIY or, have them do it for no additional charge.
There is a forum member who di the LTCC conversion and made it look GREAT! instead of mounting them over his valve covers I think he but them near the wheel wells.. anyhow.. I've seen some very clean LTCC installs..
im thinking about getting a brand new 96 opti now. the next cheapest thing is a dyna and that is close to three times what i can get a new opti for
and hey. mine lasted this long
and its not totally dead yet(and ive gotten mine pretty wet before)
The first (stock from the factory) ones always seem to last a long time. It's buying/installing the second and third ones that drive you nuts :banghead:
