Default Fixed one problem, created another

I was able to fix my a/c problem on the dash, but while I was putting the dash cover back on I put the shifter in neutral and the emergency brake on, now the emergency brake is stuck. The button will not push in and the lever moves up and down with no resistance. Does anyone have any suggestions?

The lever is supposed to move up and down when the brake is engaged, it would be a little more difficult to get out of the car with it up :jester

Try pulling up on the handle while pushing the button in.

As Isaid above the button will not push in at all, just free play with the handle up and down.

So the handle will move to the top of its travel with no resistance? And you can't pull it up anymore while pushing on the button?

When brake is set and the handle is anywhere between the bottom of travel, and where the brake is set, you shouldn't be able to push the button. Only when you reach the spot where the brake is set, should the button move.

I'm pretty sure on my 86 I can release it in any position.
Good Luck

Try pulling up on the handle while pushing the button in.
Apply pressure to the release button, and then pull up on the handle. Hard. The button will go in. KEEP pressing it in, and lower the lever. You'll be fine.

Should have said: Bring the lever up to the top of the free play, and then follow my instructions. It'll make sense to you after the first time.
