Hood release problem
My hood release is not working. It does not feel like it is out of adjustment (cables not pulling enough) It feels like it is stuck (cables not pulling at all)
Is there a trick to get the hood open? I was thinking of trying to get a pair of vice grips on the cables under the dash and pull them.
Thanks!

Don't do it that way, you will screw it up and never get it open. (at least not without hours and hours of aggrevation.) There's a tool that reaches in and lets you pull the release. MAD and others sell it. In fact, I have one in my garage that belongs to a buddy. (We both went to hood pins. Track cars)
We saw a C4 melt down before our eyes because of an engine fire and a hod that got stuck closed. It was a shame.

If I remember right that is a pretty simple hood opening tool... can you take a pic w/ measurements so I can make one up in the shop?

:seeya Trog. I was a Deputy Sheriff up there back in 1990. I worked mostly Lowerlake, Middletown, Cobb, and Clearlake Oaks. All South County stuff. My Grandparents still live in Nice and my Mom has a weekend place in Konah Tayhee (sp?)

Hi Vinnie,
Sent you an email about the hood tool. I like your headlight setup. You get the car that way or add them yourself?

I had the same problem and searched under the hood for a couple of days for the problem before I decided to clean up everything real well and put new grease on the latches. It works perfect now. Can't hurt to try it.

Another way
It takes an hour a side, but you can take the cowling apart and take out the battery to get to the latch on the one side. The other side is a little easier. Also - I installed cables into the cowling so I never need the cable again

I made a handle on the outside part to help twist.

This might help :
- Remove fender
- Get a coat hanger and make a hook
- Introduce your hand thru the space between your fender and wheel well
- Introduce the hook from the wiper area, then catch it with your hand and guide the hook to the latch, till you engage them
- Stand up and pull to the center of the car, that should open your hood
- Now never forget to add emergency cables
ps : i have a bad driver side cable retainer and one day it popped out leaving the cable loose and hood closed (all of this after i had the remove fender experience)
it was a real let down..but i remembered that i had emergency cables !!!!
Wow i was happy,i pulled them and HAPPY HOOD OPEN AGAIN
The hanger has to be hard enough to pull but soft enough for you to acommodate every angle every try, here ya go,this is how i opened mine, the work of your left hand guiding it to the latch is very very important, thats the reason you have to get familiar with the latch's location :
Here you go !
This is what the tool does :
Now you need this :

Or just do it yourself :
