Default coolant sensor

I am looking at replacing the coolant sensor that sits in the front of the intake ( conro;;ed by the ecm) which turns the fan on...I have looked at the new sensor and the connection seems to be different. Has there been an upgrade on this part. Also...the fan seems to come on between 22 deg and 230..is this normal. This is the reason why I want to replace the sensor as I have a 195 thermostat. Any help would be appreciated...thatnks.. :chevy

If the connection is different, you don't have the correct sensor. It should be a 2 connection sensor.

No! No! No!

The sender in the front of the manifold reports engine coolant temp to the ECM. The ECM turns on the (main) fan when it is PROGRAMMED to. That sender is also used for ALL ECM, temp related operations. Changing that sensor, ain't gonna work. The axillary fan switch, if your car is equipped with an axillary fan, is in the left head between the # 1 and # 3 spark plugs (on an '86). THAT is the switch you can change to alter the (aux) fan on/off temps. For the main (or only) fan, you have to reprogram or rewire. I hope we caught you in time. Good luck, and...
