hi, my 92 corvettes window just stopped working yesterday(And of course, the day my window breaks 1/2 way down,....is the only day it rains in california,...go figure). The passenger side works fine. It makes no sounds atall when i push the switch, but when i slam the door it makes a sound like theres something loose inside there..............what should i do?? how do i take the door panel off?
Re: Ahhh, driver side window stopped working! (nottheliving)
Usually it is a broken window ribbon. To check, see if you can't get the gear and ribbon to catch while putting a little downward pressure on the window while depressing the switch to roll the window down. If it grabs, roll the window back up, and if it stops at the same spot it is because the ribbon has snapped. Pretty inexpensive fix. Just buy a new ribbon from MAD, not an entire motor, and instructions will come with it.
Sorry just noticed that it is not making any sound, it's probably not the ribbon.

Re: Ahhh, driver side window stopped working! (nottheliving)
Your 92 should be just like my 94 and I've replaced both the window motors. I bought some remanufactured motors from AutoZone for about $40 each. The driver's side door was the first one I did and it took me about 6 hours to do :mad . I did the passenger side a few months later and it only took 2 hours. I can't believe that a dealer would do it for less than a couple hundred because of all the crap that has to come apart. If you've got a day to spend and want some tips, either email me or look in the tech tip section (there's a good write up on replacing motors).
Re: Ahhh, driver side window stopped working! (nottheliving)
If nothing is messed with the wiring (no loose connections) and you are hearing no noise I might check out the actually switch. It may have a loose connection or it may have gone. You should be able to hear some "power" noise when you press the switch. If you hear something maybe the window reg. or motor is gar-bage. Dont give up yet!
