engine bay heat, more on passenger side
I was getting a whiff of oil after shuting down and was trying to figure out where it was coming from. I was looking at the back/top of the motor right in front of the windshield. I noticed that there was alot more heat coming from the passenger side than the drivers side. Anyone ever notice this? Only thing I could figure to cause this is a difference in airflow due to obstructions.
On the left side it almost seemed too hot. Like if you were holding your hand close to a fire.

That's exactly what it sounds like it could be. However after reading your post I went out for about ten minutes to get it warm and the passenger side didn't overheat. Might not have run it long enough. I also 'quickly' touched each cat and they were about the same temp.
Besides the heat in the engine bay is there any other way to tell a cat is bad?
thanks
Ken

You can test exhaust back pressure, a clogged cat ought to show up.
I know how to do it on my 88, not sure where the "pipes" and stuff are on yours.
If you have a shop manual (good investment) it will take you thru the procedures and the outcomes
