95 Coupe with only 38K miles - a very noticible vibration from about 65mph up - have had wheels balanced and a front end allignment with no fix of this specific problem... any other suggetions?
Also - wouldn't mind replacing with new neoprane bushings in total up front - any idea of labor cost for this project? :chevy
Re: Front end vibration - no solutions yet (widow)
Check for steering rack mounting tightness. Are your tires TRUE round? They can be balanced and not be round; some manufactures sell "blemished" tires VERY cheap that don't meet spec. Hopefully your are not that. Remember: all cars chassis have a natural resonance that occurs at certain speeds. Depends on the chassis...has your car been in an accident before? Good luck.
Re: Front end vibration - no solutions yet (widow)
I had the same problem with 63 mph vibration..
after replacing shocks, front ball joints, new tires, etc.
discovered it was the rack & pinion internal tie rod..
replaced the rack & pinion and it cleared up..That was an expensive vibration...but it's great now..
Re: Front end vibration - no solutions yet (Rick Williams)
Agree with the above.
Systematically
1) Wheels/Tires- Round and Balanced
2) Rotors- True and balanced
3) Wheel Bearings
4) Ball Joints
5) Outer and Inner Tie Rod ends
6) Steering Rack- Tight and without play
7) Shocks
With over 50K miles- ball joints. bearings or tie rod ends are suspect
Re: Front end vibration - no solutions yet (tkrussell)
I'm having the same problem with my 87. Just had the wheels balanced but it still shimmies are 60. Will have to have ball joints and tie rods check next.
Also I already have new rotors but still have to install them.
Thanks for eveyones help on this one, now I know what to check next.

Re: Front end vibration - no solutions yet (DMONSVETTE)
I was having issues at around 57mph+ with bad shaking, kind of settled with cruise at around 75mph but was bad at all other times. I had tires/shocks/springs/alignment/balance done, no issues now, probably doesn't help, but who knows!
Re: Front end vibration - no solutions yet (Metamando)
85% of the time a vibration @ speed is tire/rim related. If at all possible swap rims with a friends car. Or put on 2 front spares (donuts) and road test. This will tell you alot.
Re: Front end vibration - no solutions yet (tpi 421 vette)
ALSO could be a bad belt in tire. The steel in the belts can be damaged by a pot hole or curb strike. The tire looks fine but can have internal damage. Borrowing a friends front tires for a day or two should answer the question of tires vs. front end problem.
