Used to be an old trick for bumping up compression a small amount. Since I am doing some head work, does anyone have a recommendation for which one to use?
Thanks for your assistance...
Thanks CFI. I left out some pretty significant info. The car is a 94 LT1. the heads have never been off, so I expect the stock gaskets were used. I also expect the deck height is unchanged.
I believe the factory gasket is a .049 and impalla head gaskets are .029. That is what I used. Now I was told that for every .0065 you reduce by equals .1 compression ratio. This is all rough math, but I believe the impalla gaskets raise the compression by about .3 ie from 10.4 to 10.7
I got the Impala head gaskets as well and one thing I noticed about them is that they don't extend out and have holes for the pushrods. I had forgotten about this after I put my motor together and was curious as to why one is that way and the other not. Were they just supposed to be like pushrod guideplates?
The thing about not having the guide holes was the only difference I noticed. One thing that came into play on mine, shouldnt be a issue for you, is I had to get my intake milled due to the fact that I had the heads shaved .030 as well.
