i'm looking to buy QA1 shocks for the street what are the up's and downs?? do they bolt right in?? i noticed on my shocks that i just bought 5 months ago that the back sit's higher than the rear. i have 17x11 rim's with nitto's 315/35/17's on the back and there has to be 2-3 inch diffrence from the front. the shocks i have are from ecklers they are vfr's they don't even list them anymore.
see this thread that we discussed this past Tuesday: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=768918
Note especially my comments on the way the rears mount on the lowers. I'll try to go snap a pic later this evening to illustrate better. Definitely something needs to be done. Others here have addressed this issue hopefully they will chime in here. Surely it's in the archives here also.
I bought a complete rear end D44 last month from a guy on forum, that switched to a 9inch FORD rear. He included in the deal, which was brake disk to brake disk complete rear, a pair of almost brand new QA1 shocks. Yes they bolt right in. You have to use the triangle plate at the top to bolt them too. They are adjustable with a little black **** on them. The seller said that he had them on his drag corvette for only a few months, when he decided at the end of the season to switch to the ford. I have wondered what they would look like on my corvette, and how they would ride? I would like to preserve a some what smooth ride. Any knowledge about these shocks would be appreciated (not to intentionally HIJACK this thread though). If they will be stiffer bumpier, then maybe I will sell them. I have been eyeing the IAS shocks for awhile.
Chris
QA1 are completely bolt in, shouldn't be any cleanance issues other then that would exist with your existing shock setup. One thing you need to do is get washers for the rear, as the mounts are not as wide as stock shocks. Also you will need to press out the brass insert that comes on them, otherwise they will not fit on the rear bottem mount. I called QA1 when I did my install, said that is was fine. They pressed out easily with a hammer and socket. I've run mine now about 5000 miles, feel great, no problems. Easily adjustable, and you can completley tune the way the car feels. From smooth riding to go-kart style.
