I recently had my trans done in my 90 coupe. The mechanic said he put in a 2000 stall spd. convertor and reprogrammed the shift points in it. I bracket race the car also. My question is that when I come off the line and have my foot down to the floor when it's ready to shift into the next gear the engine revs up to 6,000rpm I back out of it cause it revs so high I've never driven a car with a stall convertor in it. Is this normal for it to rev so high between shifts it does not do it from the 2nd to 3rd shift? THANKS FOR ALL THE ADVICE
Re: Torque Convertor or Trans problem maybe (pipe)
6k rpm's w/o upshifting seems awfully high even w/ the TV cable set at the highest position but I guess it's possible. I've set mine to the highest (slider pushed all the way in) and saw a max of 5800 and it did upshift. I noticed also that the 5800 was only in 1st gear, all the other gears shifted at 54-55K rpm's. Push the adjust tab (shaped like a D ) and pull the slider out toward the front of the car a little bit. That will make it shift sooner, or you could adjust it the proper way. That way is:
1) press the "D" tab and push the slider all the way in "toward the rear" ( by reading the problem you have I assume it's already there)
2) press the gas pedal and it will ratchet itself to the proper position.
If the slider is already out some, I'd take it back to the trans guy and ask what's up.
Re: Torque Convertor or Trans problem maybe (War Machine)
I called the guy who did my trans today and told him what happened he told me to bring it in to his shop. He said the govenor springs need to be readjusted and he will check out everything else. WHEW SOUNDS GOOD TO ME
