On my '88 the Dist Ref Pulse Input goes into the ECM on the Ppl/Wht wire into pin C2. My ECM has no tach output signal.
A tach signal also goes to the Inst cluster on the white wire into pin C5 of the cluster assy.

Take off the knee bolster on the drivers side. There is a mass of wires that comes thru the firewall right by the clutch pedal. The tach wire is the white wire, tap into this one. The pink wire is the hot, key on wire and then find a good connection for your ground wire.
Tie wrap the wires up there & then all is hidden under the dash, replace knee bolster and your're set to go. Nice & clean & you did'nt have to run anything thru the firewall.
