Default 1.6 rocker help!

In about a month I think I am going to convert to 1.6 rockers. I was told it is a roller motor (don't know much about rockers and stuff ). Anyway, I see all these different sizes, 3/8" stud and 9/16" stud, which one do I need? Would it be a 1.6 roller rocker? I am looking to only replace the rockers, nothing else for now. I need help!

Thanks fellas

Stock stud size is 3/8". 7/16" is stronger but I am not clear as to whether you need to modify your heads to fit them.

Roller lifters came out in 1987 - that is what people refer to when they ask if your car has a "roller motor".

You need to specify a 1.6 rocker ratio otherwise you might wind up with 1.5 roller rockers (both are available) - 1.5 is the stock ratio.

I am unsure if this is the case with all brands of rocker but my 1.6 ratio Comp Cams roller rockers needs a longer stud to bolt on. There are plenty of other guys here who are more knowledgable on this subject than I am that can fill in the blanks I have left.

HTH. Good luck.

Your '90 has the same #113 heads as my '88 L98, which have stock non-hardened guide plates that must be removed; so here's what I suggest you install:
-ARP 7/16" rocker studs
-Comp Cams #1305-16, 1.6:1 ProMagnum RRs for 7/16" studs
-Comp Cams #4800-8, hardened raised guide plates
-Comp Cams #7808-16, hardened push rods for 1997 and newer SBC
-Comp Cams #127, 14oz tube of light assembly lube
-FelPro Perma, Seal valve cover gaskets

Get the ARP studs from Summit, CC parts direct from Comp Cams and the valve cover gaskets from AutoZone or similar.

You will need to grind down the drip tabs under the valve covers and you will need to narrow the bolt towers between the RRs for clearance.

Apply a little light assembly lube to both ends of the push rods, to the underside of the rocker push rod cups and to the tips of the valve stems.

I wonder if they changed that somewhere over the years. My '91 didn't have any sort of guide plates on the rockers in stock form.
