Default Diff Gear Oil Survey

I am in middle of replacing my D36 with a D44, so therefore wish to hear what the majority of those who have changed gear oil are using. I have been told that you don't have to use the GM Posi Lube with Synthetic. WHat are the down sides to this? The D44 is being rebuilt with a 3.55 gear. Leaving me with a D44 3.07 gear, a D44 4.09 gear and a complete D36 3.07 set up. Thanks. Chris

Regular old dinosauer squeezings are supposed to last the life of the car. Since I can't bring myself to leave diff lube in forever, I use a good brand of non-synthetic diff lube with anti silp additive.

I have never heard of one of these differential wearing out running on conventional diff lube. But, I'm sure I will now (breaking doesn't count)

What's the estimated capacity of a Dana 36? I know you're supposed to fill to the hole, but out of sheer curiosity what does this equate to? One bottle, 1.5 bottles of gear oil, etc?

Wow. No offense intended guys, but this thread has my eyes rolling back in muh head!

Dyno, synthetic, semi-synthetic, w/lube, no lube... what's a poor boy to do?

I need to R&R my tranny and diff, and so I am very interested in this topic, but this is more bounce than asking which color is fastest! :flag

So let me - in my state of ignorance - ask this: where does one find GM Posi Lube? Dealer only?

I have been told two quart bottles of Diff oil and one small bottle of GM Posi lube will fill the diff on level ground. You can buy the GM Posi lube from summit/Jegs/GM Dealer/speed shops/ Richmond Gear/ Randys Ring and Pinion/ etc. I bought 2 bottles of Mobil One Syn gear oil and 1 bottle of GM posi lube. Waiting for the driveshaft to complete my rear swap. I bought 6 heavy duty Performance U-joints too.

Well - after getting the rear diff rebuilt and back. The rebuilder (Carl) told me in no unceratin words "two bottles of regular oil and one of posi lube" This will wear the gear in properly for the first 1000 miles. Then you can switch to that fancy synthetic lube, suck it out with a slurp gun. The first 15 mins, I am supposed to start car up with wheels off the gound, put it in drive. That means I need to jack it up. put it on jack stands, plus jack up the A arms so they dont hang down while the half shafts are turning. Sounds like I need a few hydraulic floor jacks.
