Emissions mods?
What kind of mods can be made to the emissions system to increase HP? I don't care if the EPA likes it or not, but I need to be able to undo the changes without too much trouble for when the car needs to pass inspection.
High-flow cat is probably the only one that is easy.
You could removing the AIR Pump, not really sure if there is a real gain out of doing it. But also as long as you don't have visual inspections you shouldn't have a problems passing without it as its only really active the first couple minutes to help heat up the cat quicker.

I was not aware that NC had emissions testing. I lived in Onlsow County for 3 years while in the service and all we had to do was "Vehicle Safety Inspections" They cost about $10 just about anywhere and took about 5 minutes to do.
You can't do any changes to the emissions system on your car, even if the changes don't make any more polution. THAT'S what erks me. I believe it's everyone's responsibilty to make sure their car is running clean but if you change things to make your car run better/make more HP and if it still falls within the emission parameters set by the EPA for your year vehicle, so what?
The object of automobile emission laws is to make sure our cars don't polute beyond a reasonable amount. But if your car is still running clean, you should be able to do anything you want to it. It's your car.
But that's just me. Unfortunately, the EPA doesn't agree with the BIG JIM sense of logic.
Something I've done before if your car fails the visual but still passes the sniffer (although I'm not real proud of it) is pull the tester aside and slip him a C-note. The testing computer and the DMV won't know the difference and your car is still running clean. The only harm done is to your wallet.
I removed the AIR, EGR, pre-cats, and installed LT headers, a single hi-flow cat and Hotcam kit. When I took the test I was running 38 psi FP, timing was at stock 6 degrees and the idle was at 950 rpm's. As soon as I got home I bumped the timing to 10 degrees, raised the FP to 42 psi and just recently brought the idle down to 750.
oh yea I forgot, the test was taken w/ 2 gallons of 100 octane and 18 gallons of 93 octane.
